I was so excited to photograph my ethically made bag from Everlane…. a “radically transparent brand.” In 2020, “the Ex-Wives Club” shared a doc called Everlane’s Convenient Transparency with accusations of Everlane union busting and being anti-Black. I stopped supporting the brand after that. I do not know if the brand ever made impactful changes or met their demands. Here we are in 2026 and Everlane has soldout to the ultrafashion brand Shein for $100 million. It’s disappointing when a brand you think is doing the good work turns out to be a facade…or turns out to care about profits over people. Our individual actions matter but the system is the real problem. So let this be a reminder for us all to fight for meaningful change and legislation in the fashion industry because I’m guessing this isn’t the only brand Shein plans to purchase.
